Resilience During Unprecedented Times

With Nepal still struggling to control Covid-19 cases, the country has largely remained in lock-down through these past 9 months. This has meant that our students at the Pharping Hostel have been exclusively learning via computers and cell phones while avoiding traveling to Kathmandu where the day school is located. At Simikot Hostel, our students have been more protected from the virus as the remote mountain village has only recently been exposed to Coronavirus but the cases remain low. The school has gone into lock-down not allowing any visitors and the girls cannot walk down to the village market. The Simikot Hostel has continued with their normal schedule with in class instruction and they have also been receiving online English lessons from our Project Manager, Julia, who is able to video-chat with them 5 days a week. Our students are doing well and staying safe and healthy while also progressing in their education and for that, we are very grateful.

Julia writes 15 sentences in Nepali and then the girls work on translating each sentence together in English.

Celebrating Dashain and Diwali

The fall is a very auspicious and special time in Nepal with two major Hindu holidays that are celebrated, Dashain and Diwali. Thankfully our students were able to safely celebrate the festivals by dancing, eating good food, and singing together. You can see our students wearing Tikkas, the red powder that is put on one’s forehead as a blessing.
