Girls With Dreams Become Women With Vision
These four amazing young women, Anjali, Sarmila, Sasmita, and Pratima are taking a break from their studies to enjoy a brief trek overlooking Simikot – one of the most isolated and poorest regions of Nepal and the location of our Namaste Children’s Fund (NCF) school. The community borders Tibet and is only accessible by aircraft or by motor transport after a 7-day trek.
In 2001, the Nepalese government recorded the literacy rate of women in the Humla District at 21%. And although not much has changed since that study, one thing has: Thanks to your support, over 90 girls are now receiving an education and the self-confidence to be the future leaders in their community.
Living in mud and stone huts on steep hillsides presents several challenges for these girls. There are limited education opportunities and most of their time is filled working in the fields or daily chores to just survive. During the winter months, they rarely go outside.
That was until NCF arrived. Today the girls are given the opportunity to attend school, play outside, eat healthy meals and learn leadership skills. The girls are thrilled to share with their families the importance of reading and writing which sets in motion a completely new vision for what they can become and their role within the village.
These transformational moments are hard to capture in just a few photos, but they are real and tangible. Without your support, none of this would have been possible.
Thank you for helping change the lives of these young women and their entire village & communities.
Namaste,
Sandy Clark
